Are you saying that basic research is creating its own need? I would think that research exists because of mysteries in the physical world that cannot be solved or explained or problems that need to be resolved. For example when Chastity Bono announced her sex change operation I wondered if perhaps birth control pills might be a factor. Her mother, Cher probably took them before she was born and I wonder if that has an effect on hormones levels so much so that causes the baby to have a hormonal inbalance?
