It IS democracy, though! They elected the governor, right? The cuts have to come from somewhere, and nobody will consider raising taxes.
To me it's fascinating. I think the unions have brought this upon themselves by decades of feeling that they were untouchable. Why should there be such inequality between workers in a powerful union, employees in the private sector, and (God forbid!) the self-employed (who are completely left out in the cold!)?
The post had more to do with the juxtaposition of the "international pro-democracy rallies" and those in Wisconsin. Of course the governor and state house members were elected (we will save campaign finance reform for another day, even though without it I would argue there is no real democracy)
On the other hand, I am for shared sacrifice but I do not see any sharing by the top 1% of the wage earners. Therein lies the inequity. I have already given up a cost of living raise for the next two years and will probably face furlows. Bank bonus are at record levels even though their profits are down.
